We know your choice of mobile devices are plentiful these days, and at Yahoo!, we’re focused on building great user experiences across devices, form factors, and platforms (our mobile experiences are now optimized for 5,000 different mobile device types and counting).
Our recent string of Yahoo! Messenger mobile releases brings this strategy to life: build an innovative, first-to-market experience for the iPhone (3GS/4.0), extend it to iPod Touch (4th generation), the mobile Web, and starting today, make it available for Android devices, too (OS 2.2 and above). And for good measure, we’re updating our Yahoo! Mail Android app to bring all our most advanced email communications features to Android devices globally.
In both apps, you’ll now be able to merge and synch Yahoo! Address Book contacts with your Android contact list. Here are a few more of the notable new features in each app (more on the Yahoo! Mail blog, too):
Yahoo! Messenger for Android:
- Start Video Calling – Begin your video IM conversations on your PC and continue them from your Android, iPhone, or any Internet-enabled device. †
- Enhanced Photo & Video Sharing – Makes it easier to share photos & videos with friends.
- Contact Sync – You can now access your Yahoo! Contacts from your device contacts app with ease, wherever you are in the operating system.
Yahoo! Mail for Android:
- Multiple Accounts – Link multiple Yahoo! accounts in one app.
- Enhanced Photo Viewing – View all the photos you’ve received and sent in a gallery view without having to dig through messages to find the attachments.
It doesn’t matter where you are or what device you have – we’re dedicated to delivering the best possible mobile experience to consumers. These apps are available for download today in the Android Market.
As always, we’d love to hear what you think, so drop us a comment.
Cheers,
Irv Henderson
† Video is in Beta. It requires OS 2.2+ and Yahoo! Messenger Video Add-on. Support for MyTouch 4G & EVO with additional device support coming in the next few weeks.
